Phase I depicts a "not so well off" family heading west with all of their possessions in a freight wagon covered with a tarp. The family mules dutifully pull their heavy load. Mom and daughter walk along side as dad drives the team. The young daughter clings to both her dolly and dad as the wagon bumps along. The son decides to hitch a ride on top of the load
